Alpine Ski, Ski Racing & Snowboard Coach
Position Description
The Middlebury Ski & Snowboard Club (MSSC) is seeking experienced ski and snowboard coaches for our U10-U16 winter alpine racing and recreational ski and snowboard programs. This seasonal paid position requires on-hill coaching duties. MSSC is a growing weekend-based program that strives to provide the best opportunity for young athletes of all backgrounds and commitment levels, the chance to enjoy and achieve excellence in snow sports. MSSC looks to coach our athletes to be great skiers and riders first, while fostering a love for the sport through quality training, fun, and an environment that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence. MSSC’s mission is to provide an atmosphere where athletes find a lifetime of skiing, ski racing, and snowboard enjoyment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive training program for assigned athletes.
- Collaborate with other MSSC coaches to implement daily training plans during Saturday training sessions.
- Plan and conduct on-snow training sessions, including drills, technique improvement, and race preparation (for alpine ski racing coaches).
- Travel with the athletes to competitions.
- Provide mentorship and support to athletes, fostering a positive and encouraging environment.
- Communicate regularly with parents and athletes about training schedules, progress, and upcoming events.
- Ensure the safety of all athletes during training and competitions.
- Maintain and care for club equipment.
Qualifications:
- Previous coaching and/or instructional experience
- Strong knowledge of alpine skiing or snowboarding techniques
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work well in a team and collaborate with other coaches and staff.
- Certification, or ability to obtain certification, from a recognized ski and snowboard coaching organization (e.g., USSS) is preferred
- For Alpine Ski Racing Coaches:
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including weekends and some Fridays.
- Strong knowledge of alpine skiing racing techniques and race strategies.
Benefits: This seasonal part-time position offers an hourly pay range of $16 - $21 based on certification level. A Middlebury Snowbowl Ski Pass is provided.
